Once in a Millennium...

Alright, so it happened last week, but with all the Christmas festivities and whatnot I have been a bit too preoccupied to report - but on December 21st (2010), for the first time since 1638 (that's 372 years, for you kids counting at home) a full lunar eclipse took place on the same day as the Northern Winter Solstice... that's only the second time it has happened in the Common Era.

Needless to say, it was amazingly beautiful in a "the universe is amazing and infinite" kind of way - check out this time lapse video to try and get a taste of how spectacular it was without waiting the 4 hours in the cold! ...ignore the cheesy ocean sounds

Where to Spend that Christmas Cash... If You Have the Willpower to Wait

H&M's Spring 2011 line is making me giddy in anticipation of warmer weather... even though the only thing the near future holds in my neck of the woods is a blustery blizzard... Oh well, for now I'll keep dreaming of green grass and blooming flowers... and maybe trying to copy this quirky-chic, off-center, super-high bun - love!

I think this red dress with the poufy, cupcake-y skirt is so ridiculous and whimsical, ador!

I love black and white pinstripes - all year long!

Watch the Time

Oscar Diaz's Ink Calendar

This exhibition is pretty old (like 2009 old) but I love the idea of watching the continual passage of time - ongoing, void of a single lapse, just constant and flowing.  Beautifully brilliant.

On the project:

"Ink Calendar make use of the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time. The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are ‘printed ‘ daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. The calendar enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.  The aim of the project is to address our senses, rather than the
logical and conscious brain.

The ink colors are based on a spectrum, which relate to a “color temperature scale”, each month having a color related to our perception of the weather on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to three shades of green in spring or orange and red in the summer.
Ink Calendar is shown as part of SUEÑOS DE UN GRIFO.
Diseño con alma de agua at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid."

I Like 'Em Scrappy

Pretty is perfect at times, but not every occasion calls for being primped and put-together - sometimes a little rough around the edges can be just as glamorous.

The Wiz Kid

Wiz Khalifa is not only a dope rapper, but he is also kinda adorable... Check out his tattooed baby face during the cover shoot for The Source magazine's December 2010 issue, in which Wiz was named Rookie of the Year (alongside Man of the Year: Rick Ross ..huh?). The track used in the video, Black and Yellow, has a great beat, and the imagery is a perfect illustration of the fact that he's got swagger.

The minimalist-cool salon:

And while on the subject, Wonderland Beauty Parlor's Michael Angelo is certainly not lacking in artistic expression - from his own photography, to a chronicle of hairstyles he has designed - check out his portfolio.

Hooray for Daily Candy for showcasing a "simple, easy style" that's actually (shockingly) simple and easy! And, yay for new party looks...

X.X.X

On 10.10.10, 10 photographers around the world were asked to take (you guessed it) 10 photos - thus representing the same day in 10 different ways. I tried to pick one image from each artist, but found that for some series it was nearly impossible to narrow the choice down to just 1 image, while in others there were zero pictures that actually spoke to me... So here are my picks for the 1o best photos from 10.10.10.

In no particular order...

1
Ebony Bizys - Tokyo, Japan

2
Kris Atomic - Brighton, United Kingdom

(I love a good door...)

3
Jacinta Moore - Melbourne, Australia

4 + 5
Kate Miss - New York City, USA

6
Brian W. Ferry - London, United Kingdom

7, 8 + 9
Michelle Gow - Stellenbosch, South Africaa

10
Anabela Carneiro - Toronto, Canada via Algarve, Portugal

The butter-cream frosting on top of this hefty morsel?
Hilda Grahnat of Malmo, Sweden via Berlin, Germany's entire album!

Here's a sample:

PETA-Friendly Animal Décor

Animal photographer Sharon Montrose gets the who's who of the Wild Kingdom into her stark studio. From flamingos to lions, to baby kittens and piglets, Sharon has amassed quite the collection - resulting in a conceptually simple, yet stunningly detailed, portfolio of glamour shots of the wild creatures.

MASHup

Inspired by a post from thedieline.com, I decided to check out Australian Art & Design Direction company MASH. Though founded only 8 years ago, MASH boasts a very impressive portfolio with a heavy focus on wine bottles, but also incorporates album covers, restaurant brand identities, and book jackets.

Keep up the good work, MASH!
