H - 2 - Eco

I'm obsessed with my metal water bottles - I save a serious ton of money instead of buying water, plus the toxins from the eroding plastic of the bottles aren't getting into my system via my overpriced water. Instead, I drink tap via funny, cute, and functional little carrying cases.

Bonus: drinking tap from these re-usable H2O bottles is super eco-friendly - not using harmful plastic not only doesn't create mounds of trash, but if the demand for these things decreases, that means less harmful chemicals coming from the factories too - woo hoo!

SIGG was my go-to brand for a while - they sell them lots of places, including Whole Foods, plus the online store has some nice design options. The prices range from about $18 to $30 - but it'll pay for itself in a few days!

Now, though, I have lost a few, so I have been heading to Target for new bottles - they're usually a little cheaper (I got one for $2 once!) and, lately at least, I have liked the designs available at the Targ more than what SIGG has to offer.

Plus, there is currently an interesting Threadless & Thermos "Artist Series" water bottle project going on at the bargain spot. Old Threadless t-shirt designs have found a way to reinvent themselves on water bottles (as well as lunch boxes, etc. at their own website)

I just got this one from the collection for just $14.99:

It's called "Funkalicious," natch.

Go eco-friendly and save some cheddar - buy a cool, re-usable water bottle stat!

Creepin

The SNL digital short this week, "The Creep," was a huge success: not only were the dance and visuals pretty hilarious, but it became something I actually want on my ipod with Nicki Minaj's signature raw, yet candy-coated, sound and clever rhymes. So fun!

Check it:

Happy 2011!

Having just returned from a little trip Down Under, aka Sydney, Australia, aka beaches, tanning, and summertime in the southern hemisphere, I am totally in the spirit of the sunny season (more to come on Sydney later)!

When it comes to swimwear, I'm definitely more of a bikini girl myself, but when I saw this adorable, retro-influenced one piece suit by Marysia Swim, I had to give it a quick post.

This is my absolute favorite neckline, and the slightly angled black panels give the illusion of a more hourglass-y figure.  Sure, the price tag is kind of heavy (a whopping $229 for a swimsuit), but if you're the type to be resort-ing all winter, then you should get plenty of bang for your buck wearing this one-piece all season!

Once in a Millennium...

Alright, so it happened last week, but with all the Christmas festivities and whatnot I have been a bit too preoccupied to report - but on December 21st (2010), for the first time since 1638 (that's 372 years, for you kids counting at home) a full lunar eclipse took place on the same day as the Northern Winter Solstice... that's only the second time it has happened in the Common Era.

Needless to say, it was amazingly beautiful in a "the universe is amazing and infinite" kind of way - check out this time lapse video to try and get a taste of how spectacular it was without waiting the 4 hours in the cold! ...ignore the cheesy ocean sounds

Where to Spend that Christmas Cash... If You Have the Willpower to Wait

H&M's Spring 2011 line is making me giddy in anticipation of warmer weather... even though the only thing the near future holds in my neck of the woods is a blustery blizzard... Oh well, for now I'll keep dreaming of green grass and blooming flowers... and maybe trying to copy this quirky-chic, off-center, super-high bun - love!

I think this red dress with the poufy, cupcake-y skirt is so ridiculous and whimsical, ador!

I love black and white pinstripes - all year long!

Watch the Time

Oscar Diaz's Ink Calendar

This exhibition is pretty old (like 2009 old) but I love the idea of watching the continual passage of time - ongoing, void of a single lapse, just constant and flowing.  Beautifully brilliant.

On the project:

"Ink Calendar make use of the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time. The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are ‘printed ‘ daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. The calendar enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.  The aim of the project is to address our senses, rather than the
logical and conscious brain.

The ink colors are based on a spectrum, which relate to a “color temperature scale”, each month having a color related to our perception of the weather on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to three shades of green in spring or orange and red in the summer.
Ink Calendar is shown as part of SUEÑOS DE UN GRIFO.

I Like 'Em Scrappy

Pretty is perfect at times, but not every occasion calls for being primped and put-together - sometimes a little rough around the edges can be just as glamorous.
